October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). My blog friend Mel, over at a Working Mom’s Closet is encouraging folks to wear something pink everyday or days throughout the month of October as a way to support breast cancer awareness. I’ve signed up for the aWEARness challenge! I don’t own a lot of pink, but will wear what I have during the next month.
According to NBCAM, in America, breast cancer is the “second leading cause of death in women” and also affects a small percentage of men. But through early detection and treatment, there are approximately “2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States”. If you or anyone you know has been affected by this disease, join us and wear pink to help raise awareness of breast cancer in your community! Here are some pink inspirations from my pinterest boards.

awesome idea!!!!
Wearing more pink sounds like a great idea! I like your inspiration pics! Side note about breat cancer awareness…I just read in a mag (forgot which…) that many companies are jumping on the “buy our pink product for breast cancer” bandwagon. However they don’t send any money to support research, so becareful what you buy (if you were hoping to support a good cause).
…sorry, I’ll get off my soap box now!
I’ve heard the same about other types of causes! Great advice, April, it’s important to be smart about your donations. Do your research first or find out what organizations are legit.
Some fun and cute stuff.
My roommate’s mom passed away from breast cancer 2 years ago, and it still feels like it was just yesterday. I’m so glad you’ve shared about this, Van. I also like the pins you posted.
I’m sorry about your roommate’s mom. 2 years isn’t that long ago! Will you be wearing some pink this month?
I literally own two things that are pink… haha. The colorguard I coach this winter is looking at doing a cancer-related show, though!
