Back with another installment of pink for Mel’s, a Working Mom’s Closet and Blogging for Breast Cancer Awearness.
The maxi skirt trend has been something I dabbled in during spring and summer, but wasn’t completely sold on due to my petite height. However, when I spotted this chiffon one, in the most delightful pale pink, I knew it was a match when it passed the swish test. It’s when you put on a skirt or dress and immediately want to shake your hips, making an ever so soft, swishing sound as the fabric sways. And if you’re lucky, little, blue birds magically appear, fluttering by, throwing gold star-dust at you, while you twirl about the store to the sound of their melodic chirping.
There was one minor problem–a bulky, cheap polyester liner that needed to be removed. Sheer has been all the rage for a couple of seasons, I thought, why not! Now the skirt sits better and I love the romantic, cozy, boho vibe created with a long cardigan, brown buckle boots and heidi braids (my first). The styling was inspired by recent Free People lookbooks, particularly this image on my pinterest, here. How do you think I did?
On another note, does anyone else like musicals as much as I do? Some of my favorite classics include the Sound of Music, My Fair Lady and Wizard of Oz.

Van, I have to say this is probably my favorite outfit from you so far! That maxi skirt was definitely made for you to wear. It is such a beautiful color and pairing the feminine skirt with the boots was super cool! The mixing of all the neutral colors really looks beautiful and soft! Love your heidi braids too
You did a great job!
I love Wizard of Oz the best. We went and saw Wicked and it was one of the coolest things I have ever seen! Heather
Thanks Heather! I love this look, too. Pink is a really girly color on it’s own and not very me. So I tend to tone it down with rugged brown and blacks.
seriously adorable. love the hair, the skirt, the boots…it only we could survive all that layering over here!! nicely done!
oh, and my nephew is at oregon state, so corvalis (sp?)?? he’s a little homesick…we want to plan a short trip to visit him. will see…

You’re Invited: fall in love with mark.
Great interpretation of your pin! Adding two belts was a nice touch.
My parents liked musicals, so we grew up with repeated viewings of “Carousel” and “West Side Story.”
Basically, you did awesome. I love the soft pastel tones combined with the boots and belts! (I wore two belts today too. Belts twins!) You always look so great, Van.
Oh my gosh, this is SOOOOO adorable. I have an army green maxi skirt that I’ve been waiting for fall to rock. Now i wish it was pink! This is so dreamy

Your blog looks so professional. I love your layout. Especially having one post per page, and the three previews on the bottom.
Also, as soon as I clicked over from you lovely comment (thank you so much, it was so sweet) I was hooked. This outfit is so beautiful… I haven’t tried layering over a maxi skirt yet, mainly because I was scared I’d do it wrong or look shapeless, but this is so not the case with you. Love the shade of pink for BBCA. I love the first picture especially–the white sleeves longer so that it adds extra oomph. To die for!!
You are so beautiful!
