I really love the idea of wearing clothes in unexpected ways! Transforming them into new items yields the same euphoric feeling I get when I go shopping–only I’m saving money (by not impulse buying) and learning to love my closet! What’s not to like about this? Here is another installment of Anatomy of Clothes. Today, I’ve included a short 30 second music video (still-photography) to show the process of how I turned a sweater into a scarf. View it below.
The last time I wore a denim, olive and orange combination was in the Fall for a Pumpkin Patch outing. In fact, this is the same sweater that I’ve since altered, by cutting off the turtleneck. Instead of a v-neck sweater worn in Anatomy No. 4, it’s a crew neck. This technique really works! You have what it takes and it’s right there in your closet. I also find that many infinity scarves are super bulky and that’s not always practical. A light sweater or cardigan is the perfect size.
Now onto the layers of this outfit. It’s very simple. A sleeveless top over denim shirt (or any combo you choose). The color blocked trend is still going strong and I’m a huge fan of the contrasting sleeves style. If you’re like me, with no budget to purchase a new trendy item, do-it-yourself! Easy. Peasy.

Thank you! I think this technique is great because it really does look like a scarf and not a sweater wrapped around your neck.

This is crazy beautiful! I totally love the idea of reinventing what you already have to make it new. The shirt turned scarf is gorgeous and I LOVE the color of it. You are too gorgeous
In regards to the question you had about my make-up: I didn’t do anything new, same old same old, it was probably the lighting from the sunset or something
After I saw your sneek peek on the last post, I used a skirt as a scarf…you always have such great ideas!! And that video…too amazing!! Love of the music matches up with the photos ; )
Hope everyone is happy and healthy!
I cannot believe you are wearing a sweater on your neck! I AM EXCITED to try this! Wow! You are so brilliant Van! What a great feature you have going here..
What an awesome idea on restyling that sweater! And you did a great job with that video!
I’m dying to try this out instead of doing my homework. I have some lovely cardigan colors that would be killer as a scarf…
Van, I’m so inspired! Great idea to wear a sweater as a scarf. I’m all about maximizing what you already have in your closet and this is a perfect way. Plus the fact that it’s orange? Even better! Thanks for the inspiration
