According to my friend Wiki, “kimono” literally means a “thing to wear” in Japanese. A simple
word for a lovely garment. I thrifted this soft, chiffon one for $5 a few weeks ago and love it.
The print is beautiful and it’s actually a wrap blouse. I wore it belted during the day and then
cardigan style in the evening for a girl’s night out to celebrate my friend’s birthday.

We enjoyed delightful conversation over dessert crêpes and wine at a quaint and cozy spot
called Le Happy. The Nutella & Banana is a favorite. My mouth waters just thinking about it!
How about you? Do you go for sweet or savory crêpes and what’s your favorite filling?

Below is my day look. After seeing the photos, I’m wondering if the belted look is more
“appropriate” for a night out and vice versa. My original thought was to have a relaxed and
playful style for evening and a polished one for a work day. I wore the outfit with black
sandals, last seen here. How do you think I did?

The necklace is by far one the most interesting necklaces I own. It’s made of glazed ceramic
shapes linked together with metal chain. I liked the contrast of teal with the orange tones.

This is Little C hiding from my camera and with a muffled voice saying, “No pictures, Mama.
Away, please.” (At least, he was polite about it). I did manage to sneak in a good shot:

Man, it was freakin’ cold yesterday. Dear weather: It’s the middle of July. Pull yourself together.

This basic outfit is something you’ll find me wearing quite a bit–skinny jeans, boots and
military green or gray. It’s. just. so. dang. easy. Since my outfit lacked color, the head wrap
and bright lips gave me the splash I needed. Felt like I was going on a safari adventure–which
is why I’m attempting to climb this very small tree in our yard. Happy to say, I didn’t break
anything (myself or the tree). Probably because I didn’t actually climb it, I only pretended for
the photo. Easiest way to avoid injuries is to use your imagination! Best tip you’ll ever get
from me. I try to teach my two-year old this, but he doesn’t listen. So when he comes crying
to me about a boo-boo, I simply tell him to brush it off. It’s called tough love, people.

This yellow trench coat (found for $3, half-off, last summer at my local thrift store) is an entry
into Every Body, Every Wear. I’m appalled that anyone could let go of such a sweet coat, but
only for a second because it’s mine now and I’ll give it love.

Yup, that’s right. Folks, I’ve been around the block. (No. Not that kind!)

This past weekend, the city of Portland closed off 8 miles of streets in the North Portland area, for an annual summer event series called Portland Sunday Parkways. They have selected 5 neighborhoods (one each month, May through September) to block out vehicle traffic for about 5 hours, to promote alternative forms of transportation, engage communities, and bring people to the parks. This event allows people to enjoy outdoor activities in areas that they might not visit otherwise. Plus, it’s fun to walk down the middle of streets that are normally full of cars! And you can’t beat free. This event brought out 91,000 people to the streets last year. How awesome!

You know what else? I walked 8 miles in 3 inch heels. No. That’s a lie. My feet would hate me for that and since I need them to get around, I slipped on some canvas tennies. We strolled around on foot for a couple hours with the two-year old in tow. Though, for most of it, the little guy had a great view from Pop’s shoulders–which nearly took out his back. We are getting old. And our baby is getting big.

My laid-back weekend attire was perfect for the day’s events! Summer is about ease and that’s why I love menswear inspired looks. There’s a sense of effortless swagger that comes with the style. Adding the unexpected tribal pattern makes this classic look a bit quirky, which pretty much sums me up. I’m an odd one! It was also fun to add the pops of color to contrast an all neutral palette.

Did you miss me? Well… I’m bAAAAaaack! The Hubs, Kiddo and I took a spontaneous long weekend/mini-vacation. To this place:

It’s a little vineyard called McBeth Vineyards, 20 minutes outside of Eugene, Oregon (2 hours south of Portland), which also happens to be my In-Law’s backyard. They planted Pinot Noir grapes and have tended to it with love and passion for over 6 years. The Hub’s grandparents used to own the property, which was originally a farm. It’s also the incredible, magical place where we got married. What a way to kick-start the official start of summer with some upper 70′s and low 80′s temps! Can you feel the tranquility of the countryside jumping out of the photo? BAM. I had planned to take outfit photos, but only got in a couple (one of which, didn’t go as I had imagined in my mind). Alas, it will end up on the cutting room floor and I’m okay with that. I’ll share more vineyard photos in other posts.

This here outfit is what I wore the day we headed out of town–a slice of summer! Hope you’re all having a fabulous week.

Oh wait… there’s more. What did you expect?! I’ve been away for too long and have much to say. All very important things that will change your life, I assure you.

So besides stacking bracelets and mixing metals, I like wearing two (or three, if they are skinny) rings on a single finger. Deciding what rings to put together is like playing sculptor–you end up forming the look of one ring, but it’s an art piece. As for these laser cut-out earrings that I’ve got on–I love them and just put them back in the loop of baubles to wear more regularly. Do you tend to gravitate towards certain items of jewelry or clothing and wear them again and again, even though there are many others begging for your attention? Please share your stories. I do this all-the-time (with certain foods, too) and then get sick of it for awhile. (Take the 30 for 30 Polka Dotted Shorts in outfit No. 02 and No. 03, as a prime example of my obsessive behavior). On a related note, if you have a Buffalo Exchange (they sell new and used clothing) in your area, they are a great place to purchase fun, inexpensive new jewelry. Every season, I gather up a pile of clothes that are in great condition, but I don’t want to keep and sell to Buffalo for in-store credit. It’s a great way to clean out your closet and earn dollars towards new-to-you items. “Free” money. I have been rotating out my clothes since about 2000. Holey moley, that’s ELEVEN years!! True story. Come to think of it, I should turn my closet into a Buffalo Exchange and become part of their franchise.
